The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) of Local 1582 represents over 100 drivers, part-time and full-time staff, as well as the maintenance staff for the City of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
In 2008, the operation of Niagara Transit was taken over by the transportation department of the City of Niagara Falls and eventually changed its name to “Transit Services.” The new motto for Transit Services is, “The way to go.”
Four years later, a new Niagara Falls Visitor Transportation System came and was branded as WEGO. Full WEGO service commenced on the August 23, 2012, which operates on a more frequent service than the conventional City of Niagara Falls transit.
With more than 30 conventional buses, we service over 72, 000 citizens and tourists in the area every day. We have 14 Monday to Saturday daytime routes, 8 evenings and Sundays and holidays routes schedules and 3 shuttle routes, otherwise known as the “WEGO Red Line” and the “WEGO Blue Line.”
At ATU Local 1582, we represent transit and allied workers, fighting for the interests and safety of our dedicated brothers and sisters, while promoting mass transit.
